- MI2’s Project Management Office and project teams have had a busy April! We’re excited to share with you a few project updates from the month.First MI2/Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Bus to Business PilotMI2 has partnered with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to build a program across Kentucky’s metals companies to bring high school and college students into metals factories to tour through the Kentucky Chamber’s Bus to Business Program.The first pilot of this program was organized with Nucor and took place on Thursday, April 27th, with 22 students from Boone County HIgh School taking a field trip to tour the Nucor Steel Gallatin facility. Students heard from supervisors and interns, toured the facility, and then participated in a Q&A with the Nucor team.The next MI2/Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Bus to Business event will be held on Friday, May 12th, at Logan Aluminum’s facility in Russellville, Kentucky.
Elsewhere:
- MBA students from Temple University’s Fox Management Consulting group presented a final report from their talent pipeline project to MI2’s core team in late April. The MI2 team is currently reviewing outcomes from this report and determining the best way to present relevant insights from the project to the MI2 Talent and Workforce Strategy Group and then to the larger MI2 community.
- The Sustainability Strategy Group is currently working on a pilot project led by member company Logan Aluminum to explore non-diesel options for fork trucks in metals factories. The pilot is in active exploration phase, and we look forward to sharing outcomes over the course of the next few months.
- MI2 is working with a capstone class group at the University of Louisville College of Business and Talent and Workforce Strategy Group Head Chris Boggs on a project tasking the UofL students to analyze and provide insights on talent and workforce needs and opportunities for the Kentucky metals industry. We look forward to sharing insights from that project with the broader MI2 community as the process concludes.
- The Project Management Office is working with the Branding Strategy Group and the MI2 core team to finalize further planning for the MI2 Factory of the Future conference, scheduled for September 2023. Further information will be coming soon on a save the date and on the programming.
