On Friday, February 2nd, the Metals Innovation Initiative issued two Requests for Information related to two key initiatives of the organization’s Sustainability strategic focus area. Responses to both RFIs are due by March 1, 2024, and will help inform two forthcoming Requests for Proposals for these initiatives. MI2 requests that any entity planning to submit an RFI write to confirm to MI2 of their intent to respond by Feb. 16, 2024.

The first RFI focuses on engaging in a statewide metals recycling initiative. MI2 has set a goal to increase recycled feedstock coming from Kentucky sources by 10% for the metals industry by 2030. Responses to the RFI will help inform a forthcoming RFP, which will focus on evaluating and advising on recycling practices across states and municipalities, as well as approaches, learnings, and the feasibility for increasing Kentucky’s recycling efforts.

The second RFI focuses increasing the clean energy supply for Kentucky metals companies. MI2 has set a goal to help lead ecosystem-wide efforts to increase the clean energy supply for Kentucky metals production by 10% by the year 2030. Responses to the RFI will help inform the forthcoming RFP, which will be to build a 5-year energy plan that addresses that goal, including an impact report, projects with government/other industry partners, and existing pilots on energy waste and alternate energy supply.
